Dior Maison has partnered with Dimore Studio to display fourteen pieces at the annual Salone del Mobile design fair in Milan, from April 9th to 11th, taking over the awe-inspiring venue of Casa degli Atellani. The latest example of the worlds of fashion and furniture merging is in the hands of the Italian-American duo Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, founders of this architecture and interior design studio.
Considered to be the most important international stage for designers to show their latest homeware collections, it is not surprising that every year more and more fashion brands partake in the Salone del Mobile presenting collections of home and furnishing design specially projected for the occasion.
For this edition, Dior Maison gave carte blanche to the Italian-American duo behind Dimore Studio in order to create a highly exclusive collection spanning vases, trays, a candelabra, a lighter and an ashtray, place-settings, frames and an umbrella stand. The collection combines the virtuoso alloying of different metals, gold, silver and bronze, with the interplay of Plexiglas and natural woven rattan celebrating cannage, the House of Dior’s iconic code. Echoing the Napoleon III-style chairs Christian Dior used for seating guests at his fashion shows, cannage is one of the motifs that punctuate this collection, along with sophisticated silver-leaf work and golden nuances.
“We tried to reinterpret and perhaps inject a more contemporary mood into pieces that draw on some of the House’s historical aspects” said Britt Moran. With their clean lines, these pieces of art evoke the Surrealism and Cubism, two artistic movements Christian Dior favored as a former gallerist, art collector and admirer of the greatest artists of the 20th century, from Picasso to Dalí and Magritte.
These timeless creations have been taking over the Casa degli Atellani through five different rooms, setting of which is a play on illusion, a graphic theatre dominated by black in which outlines of paintings and plants are etched in white chalk. For a one-year period, the collection is exclusively available by special order.
